Sep 16, 2023Tank rupture causes boil-water notice for rural parts of Nueces County
Parts of Nueces County are under a boil-water notice after a ground storage tank ruptured in Robstown Thursday.
The incident happened at the Central Pump Station in Robstown, which serves the Central, Sablatura Park, Agua Dulce and Banquete pump stations.
All residents in the Spring Gardens, Tierra Verde, Lost Creek, Ja-Lin, Glenco, The Plains, Rancho Banquete, Sweetwater, Indian Trails, La Paloma, Cyndie Park, The Ranch subdivisions and customers in western Nueces County, including FM 2826, CR 34 between CR 77 and U.S. Highway 77, and CR 36 are affected.
Residents in those areas must boil water prior to consumption, including washing their hands or face, brushing teeth and drinking. Children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are vulnerable to harmful bacteria.
The water should be brought to a vigorous boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, people may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source.
Nueces Water Supply Corp. and South Texas Water Authority are working with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to resolve the problem.
Once the boil-water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the notice.
