Minneapolis-based Xerxes Corp. is expected to build a $6.4M storage tank manufacturing facility in the Columbia area. Skylar Laird/Staff
COLUMBIA — A Minneapolis-based manufacturer of water and fuel tanks could build a $6.4 million facility in Richland County.
Richland County Council is expected to vote May 16 on a deal to bring Xerxes Corporation to the Blythewood area.
The company could not be immediately reached for comment.
The tank maker is expected to employ 80 full-time workers at a facility on Farrow Road, east of Interstate 77 near the Belk distribution center, according to county documents.
The site is not far from where electric vehicle maker Scout Motors is expected to build its $2 billion manufacturing campus.
In exchange for its investment, Xerxes would be able to buy down its property tax bill by 50 percent over 30 years. The company will be taxed at the 6 percent rate currently charged to manufacturers in the state.
Xerxes also has operations in Iowa, Maryland, Texas, California and Canada.
