Jun 26, 2023The Rigu Misty Business Filter Makes Everyone Look Good
I’ve been a huge fan of Tiffen Pro-Mist filters along with their Glimmerglass — but there’s a filter that I feel makes people look even better. They’re called the Rigu Misty Business filters. In fact, I’m inclined to call this lens filter something along the line of God’s gift to portrait photographers. Every time that I turn my lens to my friends, I’ve naturally got rose-colored glasses on. But this filter makes me feel like I can see the blessings they bring to my life, and therefore then, it helps me to channel the love I have for them in my work even deeper. Sure, it negates the clinical image quality you might love. But cameras are an imperfect way of capturing reality, and if that’s the case, isn’t it worth believing in imagination again?
If you were to look at the Rigu Misty Business filter, it wouldn’t look much different from other mist filters. Of course, it doesn’t have the sparkles of Glimmerglass. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not effective. What’s also really nice is that the ring itself is also very high quality. I’ve shot with it in three different seasons and I’ve never had any sort of complications removing it from my lenses. My own qualm here is that I wish that it also came in smaller sizes — like 67mm. If that were the case, it would live on my Leica SL lenses. For the most part, it’s always attached to my Canon RF lenses.
I swear, everything I shot using the RF 50mm f1.2 L and RF 24-105mm f4 L IS with the Rigu Misty Business filter attached made me want to constantly shoot. Really, very few lens filters have made achieving my creative vision this simple. And that’s saying something, considering that I’m legally blind as of writing this. Really, though, it sometimes renders scenes the way that I see them.
Before I go on, Rigu gave me the Misty Business filter as a gift, but that doesn’t change how I feel about it. Want one? Check it out on their website.
I used this filter not only for photographing friends, but also products and even a paid photo gig. When I say that it’s hard to take a bad photo with the Rigu Misty Business filter, I truly mean it. That’s especially the case if you’re using film simulations of some sort. That means that custom Canon styles, Fuji simulations, or even Panasonic LUTs can all shine here. The Rigu Misty Business filter softens skin, makes light sources glow, and is perhaps best in the summer when skin is out and folks are warm. It makes them shimmer and glow with a look that’s tough to hate on.
Couple that with a nice, warm white balance, and you’ll get gorgeous photos.
In my personal experience, the mist strength has been stronger than what I’ve seen from other brands. However, it also hasn’t affected autofocus performance. Sometimes, when working with specific point light sources, that can be an issue depending on composition.
We strongly recommend the Rigu Misty Business filter. It’s hard not to like what it offers.
