France’s technological containment specialist Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has received an order from South Korea’s HD Hyundai Samho, a subsidiary of shipbuilding giant HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), for the tank design of four new liquefied natural gas carriers (LNGCs), on behalf of an undisclosed European ship owner.

The tanks onboard the four 174,000-cubic meter vessels will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment and insulation system. While the value of the contract and the name of the client remain unknown, the French firm has disclosed that delivery is expected between Q1 and Q4 2027.

In July, HD KSOE hired the containment specialist to design the cryogenic fuel tanks for two sets of six new LNG-fueled container vessels – 12 in total – it is building for CMA CGM.

Earlier this month, GTT was hired by two Korean shipyards to build tanks for two sets of four LNGCs, one featuring the Mark III Flex system and one a membrane containment system from the NO96 series.
