Sep 16, 2023The New Tiffen Glow Filters Will Make Your Images a Dream
In recent decades, lens manufacturers have consistently been interested in perfecting image quality. While it isn’t necessarily bad, it just so happens that the sterile, crisp images tend to take away from the character of the lens and the picture itself. Although one can fix this with post-production software, it still is not the best solution for many who prefer to capture distinct images in-camera. In that regard, one organization that ensures photographers’ artistic vision does not suffer is Tiffen Company. Recently, they announced a new lineup of popular diffusion lens filters called the Glow series.

The new diffusion lens filters come in three variants: Soft Glow, Black Soft Glow, and Golden Glow filters. Each filter has been designed to remove the sterility of digital lenses while ensuring the contrast remains natural. As a result, the images look distinct, with compelling highlights. At the same time, they also offer better and smoother skin tones while ensuring the environments appear as they do in real life.
The Tiffen Company diffusion lens filters come in MPTV, Screw-in, and Magnetic sizes: 4×4 to 4×5.65, 39mm to 82mm, and are available from 1/8 to 5 densities. If one has a special request, the company will make it, too.
These diffusion filters are also a great choice for Leica and Fujifilm lenses. Imagine getting soft and distinct color images from your landscapes or portraits. They are also great for those who shoot street or architecture. While the Soft Glow diffusion lens filter makes your images soft, the Black Glow will hold on to darker areas in the images without affecting the colors. Similarly, the Golden Glow filter offers a slightly warmer effect, which will be helpful when you have many highlights in an image.
As you can see in the photographs above, each filter offers a distinct halation, which means diffusion of light, giving your photographs a unique look. The Soft Glow diffusion filter, for instance, clearly reduces the lines and pores on the model’s face while giving the image an even look. The Black Glow makes the black deeper and can work really well if you are shooting indoors or in a studio set-up. For instance, commercial photographers can use this for their artistic vision. Then there is the Golden Glow diffuser, which can be magical for wedding photographers or landscape photographers. Since highlights are crucial for both genres, the Golden Glow filter can really help enhance a scene.
In the past, we tested the Tiffen Blue Streak Filters and mentioned how even AI can’t mimic what you’re doing at all. However, we also noticed that the MPTV ones are quite fragile, and that is one thing you have to consider.
The Tiffen Glow diffusion lens filters were created in the USA using Water White glass. For longevity, they have been designed using the Colorcore Technology process, which means they have been laminated between two optical glass pieces. These are then pressed and polished to provide 1/10,000th of an inch flatness. The Tiffen Glow diffusion lens filters have a 10-year warranty.
The MPTV 4×5.65 filter will cost $565, while the screw-in filter can cost up to $154.99, depending on the size. For more information, visit Tiffen Company’s website.
